Supplements and Skincare While Fasting: Timing, Hydration and What to Adjust

Fasting changes when you can take a supplement, how hydrated your skin is, and how much sleep you get. All three matter, and none of them are covered on a standard product label. Here is how to adapt.

The timing problem

Most glutathione products are best taken on an empty stomach, because dietary protein competes for the same absorption pathways. During a fast you cannot take anything at all during daylight hours, which leaves two windows.

Suhoor, the pre-dawn meal. Take the capsule at the start of suhoor, before you eat, with water. That gives you an empty stomach, which is the ideal condition, and it front-loads the day.

After iftar. The cleanest option here is roughly two hours after breaking the fast, once the meal has cleared. Taking a capsule the moment you break a long fast, on a stomach that is about to receive a large meal, is the worst of both options.

If you take two products, splitting them across the two windows works well. Luxxe White Slim at suhoor suits the daytime, since cordyceps and L-carnitine are stimulant-adjacent and you do not want them at 2am. Luxxe White Ultima in the evening window sits alongside the overnight repair cycle.

A practical daily structure

  • Suhoor, before eating: your daytime capsule with a full glass of water
  • Suhoor, with the meal: prioritise protein and water-rich foods
  • Iftar: break the fast, eat, rehydrate
  • Two hours after iftar: your evening capsule
  • Before sleep: moisturiser, since overnight is when transepidermal water loss is highest

Hydration is the bigger factor

Honestly, dehydration will affect how your skin looks during a fast more than any supplement will.

Skin that is under-hydrated looks duller, shows fine lines more clearly, and can feel tight and flaky. This is not damage and it reverses, but it is the change most people notice.

What helps within the eating window:

  • Spread water intake across the whole window rather than drinking a large volume at once, which mostly passes through
  • Water-rich foods: cucumber, watermelon, soups, yoghurt
  • Go easy on very salty fried food at iftar, which pulls water out of tissue
  • Moderate caffeine, which is mildly diuretic. If you drink Luxxe White Coffee, place it early in the eating window rather than close to sleep

Topically, a moisturiser applied to damp skin after washing does more during a fast than at any other time of year, because you are working against a real internal deficit.

Sleep, and why it shows

Broken and shortened sleep is often the largest skin variable during a fasting month. Sleep is when repair processes run, and short sleep is reliably associated with duller skin, more visible under-eye shadowing, and slower healing of existing spots.

There is not much to be done about the schedule itself. What helps is protecting the sleep you do get: a dark room, no screens right before, and not scheduling the heaviest food immediately before lying down.

Adjust your topical routine down, not up

Skin that is dehydrated and under-slept is more reactive than usual. This is the wrong month to introduce a strong new exfoliant or to escalate a graduated system.

If you are working through the soap sequence, hold at whatever step you are currently tolerating rather than progressing. Soap 01 is the gentlest of the three, and stepping back to it for the month is reasonable if your skin is feeling tight. The full sequence is in the soap collection, and it will still be there afterwards.

The same applies to the Brilliant exfoliating set. Reduce frequency rather than stopping entirely, and resume normal cadence once you are eating and sleeping normally.

Do not start something new mid-fast

If you have never taken a supplement before, a fasting month is the wrong time to begin.

The reason is diagnostic. If you feel unwell, you will not know whether it is the fast, the disrupted sleep, the change in eating pattern, or the new capsule. Start before, or start after, so that you can attribute anything you notice.

If you are already taking something and it suits you, continuing through the month with adjusted timing is straightforward.

Realistic expectations

A month of altered eating and sleeping will not undo months of progress on skin tone. Pigmentation responds on a cycle of many weeks, and a temporary dip in radiance from dehydration is a different thing from a reversal.

If you are mid-way through a three month trial of a supplement, do not treat the fasting month as a failed month. Keep taking it, adjust the timing, and judge the whole period at the end.

When to speak to a doctor first

Talk to a doctor before fasting while taking supplements if you manage diabetes, take blood pressure or thyroid medication, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a kidney or liver condition. Fasting changes how and when medication is taken, and adding a supplement into that is a conversation worth having rather than a decision to make alone.
